Apartments_v3.zip

Vincent "MEGA" Crane

This mod replaces the apartments with higher resolution files- new J3Ds and bitmaps about six times the resolution of the stock Janes apartments. This mod reflects buildings in an undamaged condition. Effort was also made to scale the buildings to more closely match the troops and vehicles in the game. Each building also now has distinct "front, side and rear textures.

This is an update to the Apartments mod released in 2003 and is modified to reduce the "shimmer effect" that occurred at distances over 600 meters.

The mod is based on the "Berlin Buildings" textures developed for CMBB by "Juju" and were utilized with permission. Juju was very helpful with the developement of this mod and even provided some roof textures!

Installation
------------
Before installing this, or any other, custom modification, you are advised to make a backup of your original ww2.sqs archive.

This distribution utilizes 512x512 (high resolution) textures. Video card related issues including crashes to desktop may be experienced if you are utilizing a card that can not handle 512*512 textures.

Extract the contents of this archive to the WWII Fighters\Data directory. Assuming the
default installation, this is: C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\WWII Fighters\Data

The files will be extracted to a new directory WWII Fighters\Data\Apartments v3.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the WWII Fighters\Data\Apartments v3.

To install the modification, double-click on the install_Apartments v3 icon.

This will open up a DOS session and the installation will proceed in this window. A message "INSTALLING APAERMENT MOD WITH REDUCED SHIMMER" will be displayed. When the installation is complete, a message saying "INSTALLATION OF New Apartments COMPLETE...CLOSE DOS SESSION" will be displayed in the window. Close the DOS session by clicking on the X close button in the top right corner of the window.

Installation is now complete.

Designer's Notes

It was necessary to develop a new rendering technique to mitigate the shimmer problem. More on this later in the forums.... Shimmer was greatly reduced without an impact to resolution (at least up close).

Enjoy!
